Anne Marie & Kieran: Real Bride Story
Anne Marie married her true love Kieran in a fabulous ceremony at Miskin Manor. Here she shares details of their fairytale day.
How did you meet?
As most things these days, our relationship started on social media. After a few messages we decided to meet up. We met in the city of Cardiff for some drinks and it developed from there. When I first met Kieran I knew we would have something special! He was different to any other man I had ever met.
How long were you together before tying the knot?
We were together for 5 years before we got married.
How did he propose?
We went on a family holiday to Canada to visit friends. During the trip we visited The Rockies in Banff. We stayed in an amazing hotel on the mountain where the views are breath taking! One morning, Kieran asked me to come outside onto the balcony because he wanted to show me something. I refused because it was -20 and absolutely freezing!! After much persuasion, I wrapped up and went outside. I was greeted by Kieran, on his knee, with a box!! Of course I said yes!
How did you know you found the perfect dress?
I am the most indecisive person in the world! I must have visited about 20 shops and tried on almost 50 dresses. One evening, I was looking through bridal posts and noticed a post on social media from Morilee. It was a gorgeous light gold, fitted wedding dress! I instantly fell in love. The next day I made an appointment at a bridal shop stocking the dress. When I arrived, the dress was in white and not the light gold I had fallen in love with. I tried it on anyway and knew it was going to be the one. I ordered the dress that day and took the risk of ordering it in the light gold colour I had seen.
Tell us about your big day
We booked our wedding day at the beautiful Miskin Manor Hotel in South Wales, we held both the ceremony and the reception here. We had 5 bridesmaids, 3 best men a page boy and flower girl. We chose to have different colour bridesmaid dresses, so we wanted the rest of the decorations to be quite neutral. Among our décor were chivalry chairs and wicker hearts. The tables were set with hessian runners, white lanterns with warm lights and large vases of gypsophelia. Our table numbers were hessian in rustic picture frames.
We chose a traditional dinner for our main meal, with a fish cake starter and the tastiest sticky toffee pudding for desert. This was followed by the speeches, where there was not a dry eye in the room. For evening buffet we chose sausage and bacon rolls with chips, we served our wedding cake as desert. For our wedding cake, neither of us like traditional fruit cake so we decided layers of chocolate, lemon and Victoria sponge cake. It was a white cake, dressed with hessian, lace and gypsophelia.
I stayed at the venue before the wedding day so I didn’t have a wedding car. Kieran chose a VW Campervan to transport him to the venue. For evening entertainment we had a DJ and also a band. We had a photo booth and instead of a sweet cart we had a sweet ladder. We hoped that by booking our wedding in August we would have sunshine, thankfully it was sunny for us to be able to have photos but as soon as the last photo was taken it rained! We were so lucky! We wanted our day to be relaxed and for all our guests to enjoy. We didn’t really stick to a set plan, we just let the day run freely. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute – I would do it all over again tomorrow!
