Samantha & Joe: Real Bride Story
A proposal written in the sand, led the way to the perfect wedding day from Samantha and her new husband Joe
How did you meet?
The first time we met was definitely not a romantic story. I was with my friend in her car, and I was incredibly unsuitably dressed – in very short pyjamas and a hoodie – as I was completely unaware I would be sharing the ride with a new face. After my friend dropped me off, Joe had asked around for my number and he invited me on a date – we went bowling and to Nando’s – and the rest is history.
Tell us about the proposal
We were on holiday in the Dominican Republic, and it was my birthday, so he suggested to open my presents on the beach. After opening some lovely gifts, the last present was a photo book containing photos of our fondest memories over the years. The last picture was the words ‘will you marry me?’ written in the sand. I looked up from the page and he was on one knee in front of me. Of course I said yes straight away.
How did you know you had found the perfect dress?
I have always preferred a minimal and classic style, so I was sure I’d wear a long-sleeved, backless sleek dress on my wedding day. When I tried on the Kinley dress (style 5616) I knew it was the one. It was completely different to anything I had imagined. It’s a classic fit and flare lace gown with an off the shoulder neckline. I felt incredible in it.
Tell us all about the day itself
Everyone explains to you that you will truly feel a feeling you have never felt before. It really is the best day of your life. I felt completely at ease knowing I was walking down the aisle to spend my life with Joe.
We got married at St. Barnabas Cathedral in Nottingham and had our reception at the breath-taking Prestwold Hall in Leicestershire. My mum and I did all the floral arrangements and my parents made our stunning wedding cake. The day was perfect from start to finish, I would do it all over again tomorrow.
